Principal John Christy shares plans for Riverside Junior/Senior High School

MORROW COUNTY, Ore. — The Morrow County School District Board of Education approved a recommendation from the District Evaluation Committee on Monday, May 11 to contract with Bouten Construction of the Tri-Cities for upgrades and renovations at Riverside Junior/Senior High School in Boardman.

The approval is a major milestone for the Boardman community as the School District implements projects funded by last year’s voter-approved school bond. The Riverside project includes building a new gym, locker rooms, and classrooms to meet the demands of the growing community, as well as remodeling the current classrooms, hallways, gym, and parking lot.

“The Design Advisory Committee (DAC) has worked hard to make sure these additions and renovations are what our students, staff, and community need,” said Matt Combe, superintendent of the Morrow County School District. “The new gym and classroom space will give us room to continue growing, and remodeling current classrooms will create a secure, functional, and cost-efficient school building.”

The DAC will continue refining floor plans for all three school projects — including Irrigon Junior/Senior High and a Heppner K-12 campus — with an emphasis on functionality and day-to-day use. SĀJ Architecture has conducted interviews with school principals and distributed surveys to staff to better understand instructional needs, operations, and opportunities to improve learning environments.

SĀJ Architecture has been working with the DAC to create an MCSD Educational Specifications Guide for facility design to ensure consistency and equity across the District while supporting planning and budgeting. The DAC includes staff, students, and members of the community to provide valuable insight through the design process.
