MCSD will be closed February 21st in observance of Presidents' Day. Originally established in recognition of President George Washington, Presidents' Day is now viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents, past and present.

Change to Indoor Face Coverings Rules in March: We are sharing information regarding the announcement this week from the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) about future changes to statewide indoor face covering rules (OAR 333-019-1025 and 333-019-1015). Due to projections that hospitalizations are projected to fall below pre-Omicron levels in the coming weeks, OHA will lift the mask requirements from the statewide indoor mask rule (333-019-1025) no later than March 31. If hospitalizations fall to safer levels more quickly, this change could happen before March 31. For schools, the mask restrictions will lift no sooner than March 31st. We are still waiting for a final update on the status of the vaccine mandate. As has been MCSD protocol throughout the pandemic, the school district will modify our existing RSSL plan upon receipt of changes from state leadership. We are currently reviewing the details of the OHA rule change, including considerations and questions that may arise from this change for our buildings and for itinerant staff that partner with us. Our next steps will be to get more information and logistics from ODE and OHA. We will then start communication with our local public health partners and our education stakeholders and move the process towards pursuing an optional masking policy. We will continue to follow state laws, rules, and regulations as well as ensure students learn and thrive. If we receive any updates, we will share them to keep you informed. MCSD will be closed January 17th for Martin Luther King Jr Day. MLK Day not only honors the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but it encourages all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. It is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service.

Heppner community members: If you have any royal blue graduation gowns gathering dust in your closet, please consider donating it to HHS. We use these gowns for those who may be unable to afford a new one or in emergency situations when ordered gowns do not arrive in time. The South Morrow County Scholarship Committee is offering a new scholarship for former graduates of Heppner/Ione High Schools. Please feel free to share. THE STUDENT WILL NEED TO EMAIL BRANDI SWEENEY (Brandi.Sweeney@morrow.k12.or.us) IN ORDER TO RECIEVE THE LINK FOR THE GOOGLE FORM. The Post-Secondary or Graduate Program Scholarship is available to former graduates of Ione Community School and Heppner High School. Students must be entering their Sophomore, Junior or Senior Year of Community College, University or Graduate Program. Students must have a 2.5 GPA or higher to apply. A completed Google Form Application must be submitted with an attached unofficial transcript and current class schedule or verification of enrollment. Applications must be received by 4:00pm on November 15, 2021. Multiple scholarships may be awarded. The scholarship funds are to help students pay for tuition, program fees, books, supplies, rent and other expenses. If selected, funds will be dispersed directly to the award recipients no later than December 31, 2021. The Trade School Scholarship is available to former graduates of Ione Community School and Heppner High School. Students must be currently enrolled in any trade school program at least one year after their high school graduation. A completed Google Form Application must be submitted with an attached verification of enrollment. Multiple scholarships may be awarded. Applications must be received by 4:00pm on November 15, 2021. The funds are to help students pay for program fees, books, supplies, rent and other expenses. If selected, funds will be dispersed directly to the award recipients no later than December 31, 2021.
